The Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS) will resume its information sessions on adoption next Monday, September 1st, aimed at all individuals and families interested in beginning the process of adopting in Mallorca.
Professionals from the IMAS Adoption Section organize these meetings throughout the year, every first and third Monday of the month, at 1:00pm, at the IMAS headquarters at 67 Calle del General Riera, Palma. The sessions are open to the public, and no prior registration is required to attend.
During these sessions, clear and up-to-date information is provided on the adoption process, the legal and administrative requirements, and the phases involved. Guidance is provided to interested families so they can understand the different stages of the process and what each stage entails. Participants’ questions and concerns are addressed in a personalized manner. Participants are informed of the resources and support services that IMAS offers, both before and after the process is formalized.
“At IMAS, we want to support families throughout the entire adoption process, from the initial information session to the follow-up after the adoption process is formalized. Our priority is to ensure that every child can grow up in a stable, safe, and loving environment, and that’s why it’s essential to offer support and resources to adoptive families,” stated Guillermo Sánchez, Minister of Social Welfare of the Consell de Mallorca and President of IMAS.
In addition to information sessions, the IMAS Adoption Section offers training sessions to families who decide to begin the process and is also responsible for conducting psychosocial assessments, essential requirements for determining the suitability of adoptive parents.
It also provides professional support after the child’s arrival in the family, with the goal of ensuring the success of the adoption and minimizing risk factors that may hinder full integration into the family and society.
During 2024, IMAS formalized a total of 23 adoption processes: 20 national adoptions and 3 international adoptions. A trend that continues into 2025.
With this data, the island institution highlights the importance of continuing to promote policies that support adoption and assist families, with the goal of guaranteeing the right of all children to grow up in a safe and stable family environment.
