Airbnb and the Consell de Mallorca sign an agreement to promote more responsible tourism on the island.
Airbnb and the Consell de Mallorca signed an agreement last Friday that will streamline the process of removing manifestly irregular listings from the platform and promote more responsible and respectful tourism on the island.
As part of this collaboration, Airbnb has launched a new tool that will facilitate the adoption of the registration requirements established by the new European regulations and has committed to removing listings that manifestly fail to comply with local regulations.
The agreement was reached between the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, who was accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, José Marcial Rodríguez Díaz, the Island Director of Tourism for Supply and Quality, Clara del Moral, and the General Director of Airbnb Marketing Services, SL, Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, who will collaborate with the aim of continuing to take steps in this direction together.
Protocol to accelerate the removal of ads that violate regulations
The agreement between Airbnb and the Consell de Mallorca establishes a voluntary collaboration framework to expedite the removal of tourist accommodation listings that clearly violate local regulations (such as tents, campers, or yurts) as well as Airbnb’s terms of service. The platform will facilitate the rapid and effective removal of listings that clearly violate local regulations.
The initiative is part of Airbnb’s “Listing Notification and Takedown Protocol,” which establishes a clear and effective procedure for removing accommodation listings that have been identified by authorities as being manifestly contrary to local regulations and Airbnb’s terms of service.
In this regard, this agreement has so far resulted in the elimination of more than 130 advertisements identified by the Consell de Mallorca.
Mandatory registration for new short-term rental listings in Mallorca
Starting June 23, Airbnb will require all new short-term rental listings on the platform to display a registration number.
In order to facilitate inspection and identification by the competent authorities and promote transparency, the system will only accept a specific format for the registration or license number and will, from now on, make it impossible for a short-term listing without a registration number to be listed on Airbnb.
At the same time, Airbnb will launch an educational campaign aimed at the host community in Mallorca. This campaign will focus specifically on the new European regulations and registration and licensing requirements, which will be mandatory in Spain under the new legislative framework .
