Alcúdia Celebrates Successful Year of IMAS Memory Workshops

A total of 57 residents from Alcúdia and Port d’Alcúdia have completed this year’s Memory Workshops organised by the Mallorca Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS).

The workshops, which ran from October 2025 to June 2026, are designed to help older adults maintain cognitive abilities, encourage social interaction and support independent living. This year’s programme included 28 participants in Alcúdia and 29 in Port d’Alcúdia.

A closing ceremony was held on Thursday morning, where participants received certificates recognising their commitment throughout the course. The event was attended by Alcúdia Mayor Fina Linares and Councillor for Social Welfare Carme Garcia, who congratulated those taking part.

The workshops have become a long-standing fixture in the community, with some participants having attended for as many as 16 years.

More than just memory exercises, the sessions provide an opportunity for older residents to meet regularly, share experiences and stay socially active. Participants take part in a variety of activities aimed at stimulating memory and cognitive function while strengthening community ties.

During the ceremony, Carme Garcia thanked participants for their enthusiasm and highlighted the importance of staying active, connected and engaged with others. Mayor Fina Linares also praised the contribution of older residents to the municipality and their continued involvement in community life.

Special recognition was also given to workshop leader Maria José, who was praised by participants for her dedication and support over the years.

The IMAS Memory Workshops form part of a wider programme for residents aged over 60, promoting cognitive stimulation, social participation and personal wellbeing.

The Town Hall is encouraging more residents to take part in future editions of the programme, particularly men, who remain underrepresented despite the benefits the workshops provide.
