Alcudia celebrated the Holy Christ Triennial, one of the most heartfelt and eagerly awaited events for the people of Alcudia, which every three years fills the streets with faith, tradition, and respectful silence.
The day began at noon with Mass, presided over by the Bishop of Mallorca, Monsignor Sebastià Taltavull Anglada, in the parish church of Sant Jaume.
The liturgical ceremony was well attended by the faithful and was followed by the eagerly awaited Holy Christ Triennial Procession, which, with the Virgin of Victory, made its way through the main streets of Alcudia, accompanied by the Municipal Music Band.
Despite the high temperatures typical of July, citizen participation was massive, once again demonstrating the profound devotion to the Holy Christ. As is traditional, were able to see moving images of popular devotion: people walking barefoot, with their arms crossed, and even on their knees for a good portion of the route.
The Holy Christ of Alcudia is venerated in the ‘Capilla Fonda’ of the Church of Sant Jaume. It is an image that most likely dates back to the late 15th century. The devotion began in 1507, when, in the midst of a severe drought and difficult times for the population, the Holy Christ sweated blood and water inside the cave of Sant MartÃ, something that was witnessed and documented by jurists and clergymen of the time.
This miracle gave rise to massive pilgrimages and a great popular devotion that endures to this day. In 1585, the image was moved to the current chapel, and since 1697, it was established that every three years on July 26th, the Triennial of the Holy Christ of Alcudia would be commemorated with a grand procession.
The Brotherhood of Santo Cristo, founded in 1582 and re-established in 1953, remains a fundamental pillar in the organization of this celebration, which remains a living expression of collective faith, local identity, and historical memory.
A Musical Spectacular to Close Alcudia's Unique Day
Alcúdia ended the Sant Jaume and Triennial celebrations with the Alcúdia Municipal Music Band performing “Beat It!”, a spectacular Michael Jackson-inspired concert. The performance included a carefully curated selection of Jackson’s most iconic songs. its staging, becoming one of the most acclaimed moments of the celebrations.
At midnight, Alcúdia bid farewell to this special day, and with it the Sant Jaume festivities and the Sant Crist Triennial, with a spectacular fireworks display.
An explosion of light, colour, and emotion brought an unforgettable day to a close, marked by tradition, community, and a festive atmosphere that will unite the entire town.
