Playa de Alcúdia has once again been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for 2026, but this year the municipality has received an even more significant honour.
Alcúdia is one of just three municipalities in Spain to be recognised with the Blue Flag Organisation’s Special Mention for Universal Accessibility, highlighting its commitment to making the beach welcoming and accessible for everyone.
The recognition celebrates the work carried out to ensure that people with disabilities or reduced mobility can enjoy Playa de Alcúdia with greater independence, safety and equal opportunities.
Among the accessibility measures in place are adapted beach walkways, accessible shaded areas, changing rooms and toilets designed for people with reduced mobility, an assisted bathing service with amphibious wheelchairs, and a dedicated route for visitors with visual impairments.
The awards were presented during the official raising of the 2026 Blue Flag at Playa de Alcúdia. The internationally recognised Blue Flag programme assesses beaches and marinas against strict criteria including water quality, environmental education, environmental management, safety, services and facilities.
According to EMSA President Laura Serra, the Blue Flag programme is recognised in more than 20 European countries and has been awarded to 589 beaches and marinas across Spain in 2026. She also highlighted that the Special Mention for Universal Accessibility recognises the continued efforts being made to create a beach that is increasingly inclusive and accessible.
Mayor Fina Linares said the awards are the result of work carried out throughout the year by the many people involved in maintaining and improving Playa de Alcúdia. She noted that behind the recognitions is an ongoing commitment to providing high-quality services while ensuring the beach remains accessible to everyone.
The official flag-raising ceremony was attended by Mayor Fina Linares, IMAS Vice President Magdalena Garcia, EMSA President Laura Serra and Councillor for the Environment Francisco J. Rodríguez.
