Alcúdia resident parking zones: New green parking areas and resident card explained

New resident-only parking zones are now in operation in Alcúdia, Port d’Alcúdia and Alcanada, with around 2,000 parking spaces reserved for local residents.

The new green parking zones in Alcúdia are designed to make it easier for residents to park close to their homes, particularly during the busy summer months when parking pressure increases dramatically across the north Mallorca resort.

The new system requires eligible residents to display a green resident parking card (Targeta Verda) when using the designated spaces.

The scheme was introduced progressively during June, with the Town Hall warning that vehicles without the required permit could face fines.

Where are the new resident parking zones in Alcúdia?

The new resident parking scheme covers a number of locations in Alcúdia and Port d’Alcúdia, with additional resident parking in Alcanada.

According to information published by Alcúdia Town Hall and Alcúdia Ràdio, the designated areas include:

Alcúdia

  • Carrer Jaume II – Xara, on both sides

  • Es Safrà

  • Avinguda Prínceps d’Espanya, around the Bastió de la Reina and Bastió del Rei

  • Plaça Porta de Mallorca

  • Passeig Pere Ventayol

  • Avinguda de Ca na Ferrera

Port d’Alcúdia

  • Teodor Canet / Carrer Bisbe Pont

  • Carrer Ciutadella

  • Carrer Mare de Déu del Carme

  • Carrer Tabarca

  • Carrer 24 de Febrer

  • Carrer Mar i Estany

  • Poblat Aurora Picornell

  • Streets between Minerva and Diana

  • Carrer Olímp

The scheme has been introduced across approximately 20 resident parking zones.

How many resident parking spaces are there?

The original municipal announcement referred to more than 1,000 spaces being prepared for residents.

Following the rollout, IB3 reported that the scheme ultimately reserved approximately 2,000 parking spaces for residents across the municipality.

The increase represents a significant change to parking in some of the busiest parts of Alcúdia and Port d’Alcúdia.

For residents, the aim is straightforward: to make it easier to find a parking space near home even when the area is busy with tourists and visitors.

What is the Alcúdia green parking card?

The Targeta Verda is the resident parking permit introduced by Alcúdia Town Hall.

The card identifies vehicles that are authorised to use the new resident-only parking spaces.

Town Hall information states that the cards are free of charge and are valid for 2026 and 2027.

Residents can apply for the card online through the Alcúdia electronic administration system or in person.

The municipal website currently lists the “Targeta Verda d’Aparcament per a Residents en Zones d’Estacionament Habilitades” as an available online procedure.

Who can apply for an Alcúdia resident parking card?

The system is intended for residents of Alcúdia.

For the application, the Town Hall says that residents generally only need to provide their DNI or NIE.

If the address cannot be verified from the identification document, an empadronamiento certificate or registration document may also be required.

The vehicle must also meet the municipality’s requirements for resident parking.

One important point for residents is that simply living in Alcúdia does not mean that any vehicle can automatically use every restricted space. Drivers should make sure their vehicle has been correctly authorised and that they display the required resident permit.

Can tourists park in the green resident zones?

The new green spaces are intended specifically for authorised Alcúdia residents.

Visitors and tourists should therefore not assume that a normal parking space remains available simply because it is on a public street.

The green road markings and vertical signs identify the areas affected by the new regulations.

The municipality initially kept the signs covered while the resident cards were being processed and the system was being prepared.

Are the new green parking zones already being enforced?

Yes.

The resident parking zones entered into operation in June 2026.

IB3 reported on 15 June that the resident-only zones had come into force, with police officers initially distributing information leaflets to vehicles without the required permit.

Enforcement and fines were then due to begin the following week.

According to the same report, the fine for parking without the required authorisation is €200.

This means drivers visiting Alcúdia and Port d’Alcúdia should pay particular attention to the colour of the road markings and the signs before leaving their vehicle.

What about people with reduced mobility?

The new resident parking spaces also include an important exception.

According to Alcúdia Town Hall information, people with reduced mobility can use these spaces even if they are not residents, subject to the applicable requirements.

Why has Alcúdia introduced resident-only parking?

Parking has become an increasingly important issue in Alcúdia and Port d’Alcúdia, particularly during the summer tourist season.

The population of the municipality increases substantially during the busiest months, while demand for parking around the old town, port and coastal areas can be extremely high.

For permanent residents, this can mean returning home from work and struggling to find a parking space close to their property.

The new green parking system is intended to give residents priority in designated areas.

It also provides a clearer distinction between parking intended for residents and parking available to visitors.

What should drivers look for?

If you are driving in Alcúdia or Port d’Alcúdia, look for:

🟢 Green road markings
These indicate resident parking areas.

🟢 Green vertical signs
These identify the restrictions applying to the zone.

🪪 Resident parking card
Residents need the appropriate Targeta Verda to use the designated spaces.

⚠️ Check before parking
Do not assume that a green-marked space is available to visitors.

What residents need to do

Residents who have not yet obtained their Alcúdia green parking card should check the Town Hall’s online procedure.

The application can be completed electronically, while a face-to-face service has also been available at the temporary municipal office opposite the sports pavilion.

The Town Hall said the temporary office would remain available until the end of 2026 to help residents with applications.

Official online application: The Alcúdia electronic administration portal currently lists the Targeta Verda resident parking application among its available procedures.

What this means for visitors to North Mallorca

For tourists staying in Alcúdia, Port d’Alcúdia or Alcanada, the introduction of the green resident zones means that finding a parking space now requires a little more attention.

Visitors should always check the road markings and signs before parking.

The change does not mean that parking has disappeared from the area. There are still public car parks and other parking areas available, but drivers need to make sure they are using a space where their vehicle is authorised to park.

For anyone renting a car in North Mallorca, this is particularly important: a rental vehicle does not qualify for the resident-only spaces simply because the person driving it is staying in Alcúdia.
