The Town Hall of Alcúdia has secured more than €3.2 million in funding from the Balearic Islands’ Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) programme to acquire strategic public spaces aimed at environmental regeneration, heritage protection, and sustainable tourism improvements.
The funding, awarded by the regional Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports, will be used to purchase three key sites in the municipality with environmental, historical, and public value.
Part of the investment will support the Gatamoix/Poble Nou estate, acquired in late 2025, which will be incorporated into the communal lands of Puig de Sant Martí. Planned improvements include environmental restoration work, fire prevention measures, landscape enhancement, and conservation projects involving local schools and volunteers.
The funding will also allow Alcúdia to acquire land surrounding the Roman city of Pollèntia, one of the Balearic Islands’ most important archaeological sites. The move aims to strengthen protection of the historic area, improve visitor routes, support future restoration work, and safeguard the site from incompatible development.
The municipality is also exploring plans with the Council of Mallorca for a future Archaeology and Palaeontology Centre linked to Pollèntia.
Local officials said the investment forms part of Alcúdia’s wider strategy to reduce environmental pressure, protect cultural heritage, improve public spaces, and promote a more sustainable tourism model for residents and visitors alike.
