Minister Lafuente, the Director General of Water Resources, and the manager of Abaqua met with the Mayor of Pollensa, Martà March, to learn about the problem on the ground and seek urgent solutions to the damaged water supply in Pollensa.
The Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle of the Balearic Government, Juan Manuel Lafuente, visited Pollença today with the Director General of Water Resources, Joan Calafat, and the manager of the Balearic Agency for Water and Environmental Quality (ABAQUA), Emeterio Moles, to see firsthand the impact of the breakdown that has prevented the supply of desalinated water to the municipality for several days.
During the visit, they held a coordination meeting with the Mayor of Pollença, Martà March, which was also attended by City Council members and Abaqua technicians. The meeting was held to analyze the difficulties arising from the situation, the municipal response with available resources, and possible short- and medium-term technical solutions.
The failure did not occur in the Alcudia desalination plant, which continues to operate normally, but in one of the pipelines that transports desalinated water to Pollença. This pipeline has already been repaired three times, but so far the solutions applied have not been able to effectively restore the flow.
The City Council has mobilized all available resources to address the situation, but it does not have sufficient water resources to guarantee the entire population’s water supply without the support of the desalination system.
The situation has forced the city council to adopt exceptional measures, such as restrictions on use and prioritizing supply in certain areas of the municipality. The government is working to accelerate the identification of a definitive solution and guarantee stable supply in the shortest possible time.
