The Consell de Mallorca increases its investment to €27 million to finance social services in Mallorca municipalities.
The president of the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, and the president of IMAS, Guillermo Sánchez, have signed today with all the municipalities of Mallorca the financing agreements, which represent an increase of almost 20% compared to the previous plan.
The Mallorca Council, through the Mallorcan Institute for Social Affairs (IMAS), will invest a total of €27 million in community social services in Mallorca municipalities during the three-year period 2025-2027. This amount represents an increase of almost 20% compared to the previous three-year period, a decisive commitment to strengthening social welfare at the local level. Each year, the Council will allocate €9,000,096.19 to guarantee stable and ongoing resources for the municipalities of Mallorca.
The signing ceremony took place this morning at the Misericòrdia and was attended by the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, accompanied by other Consell ministers as well as mayors and representatives of the municipalities of Mallorca.
Through these agreements, IMAS channels direct funding to each city council to strengthen municipal social services teams and ensure effective, high-quality care for the most vulnerable individuals and families. This funding will improve the coverage and quality of municipal social services, ensure more agile responses to situations of vulnerability, and strengthen the technical capacity of local teams. Thanks to this sustained investment, city councils will be able to promote preventive actions, reduce bureaucracy in the processing of benefits, and consolidate territorial coordination spaces to address emerging social challenges.
Furthermore, this new plan incorporates two new funding lines open to all municipalities: one aimed at promoting community prevention, a key tool for detecting risk situations early, reducing the chronic nature of social problems, and strengthening neighborhood cohesion; and another aimed at funding new professional profiles within municipal social services teams. This new line will allow each municipality to decide, based on its needs, whether to incorporate figures such as social workers, street educators, clinical assistants, pedagogues, or other profiles linked to the field of social services.
At the same time, existing lines are strengthened to guarantee the stability of established profiles such as psychologists, social workers, educators, and administrative staff, with the aim of ensuring stable and multidisciplinary teams throughout the region. In total, these two lines allocate €6.6 million to psychology professionals, €5.1 million to other municipal profiles, and €3.3 million to community projects and emergency social assistance during the three-year period.
