As tradition continues in the north of Mallorca, locals head into the mountains days in advance to select a tree—sometimes reaching up to 21 metres tall. Once chosen, it is stripped and carefully prepared before being raised, and on the day itself, many will attempt the formidable climb to the top in a bid to claim victory.
The event is held annually, with an enthusiastic and busy crowd. It is recommended that all attendees are over the age of 18.
Schedule for event:
9:00 am – Departure by coach to go to Formentor to collect the pine tree, leaving from the ring road (behind the municipal swimming pool).
10:00 am – Breakfast in Formentor (bring your own plate and cutlery).
11:00 am – Mass of Sant Antoni at the parish church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
11:30 am – Traditional procession and blessing. There will be a gift for all participants.
12:00 pm – Arrival of the pine tree.
