The 64th edition of the Festival of Pollensa was launched last night. Classical music lovers can enjoy a variety of concerts during the month of August (9th-29th), with a total of eight performances in the Claustre of the Convent of Sant Domingo.
The Pollença City Council presented the 2025 edition of the Festival of Pollensa last night at an event in the Monti Sion Church in Pollensa. At the presentation was the Mayor of Pollensa, Mr. Martí Xavier Marc; the Councillor for the Festival, Mr. Miquel Àngel Sureda; the Artistic Director, Mr. Pere Bonet, some members of the Festival Advisory Committee, and the General Manager of Caixa Colonya, with a special guest appearance by esteemed conductor Víctor Pablo Pérez, who will conduct the closing concert.
This 64th edition, which continues with the theme “The Festival for Everyone”, features a varied programme focused on both residents and visitors, combining different musical styles and opening the Festival to new audiences.
At the launch, the Artistic Director, Pere Bonet, outlined the artists and the works they will perform: from chamber concerts with Sir András Schiff, the Casals Quartet, the Helis Trio, and Iván Martín leading the Ensemble Galdós on piano; he then explained the two symphonic concerts with Camerata Salzburg with Janine Jansen and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Víctor Pablo Pérez and with Paul Lewis on piano.
He also confirmed that the Festival would begin there at the presentation and the audience was treated to a mini concert with cellist and pianist, Duo Cassadó. Before they took the stage, each member of the panel spoke briefly before a Q&A with Maestro Víctor Pablo Pérez.
Bonet talked about the Baroque program, emphasizing the importance of having soprano Sonya Yoncheva with the Orchestre de la Opéra Royal de Versailles and the charity concert featuring the Spanish Brass quintet.
Regarding the works, of the themes that guided this year’s program, the most important is Dmitri Shostakovich, as well as Mendelsohn, Chopin, and Handel.
Martí Xavier March, Mayor of the Pollença City Council, commented that “we continue to be committed to promoting and maintaining the Pollença Festival, not only because it is a key event on the local cultural agenda, but also because it has had significant influence on the international scene for more than six decades.”
The Festival’s Councilor, Miquel Àngel Sureda, emphasized that “one of the new features we have incorporated is linking the management of the Music Festival with the Department of Culture, since, without a doubt, the Pollença Festival is the cultural event held in our town, with the greatest impact and recognition, not only throughout the islands but also throughout the world.
We have also promoted the enhancement of the Sant Domingo Cloister, a leading cultural space and venue for the Festival’s concerts. The Cloister and the Festival have been linked for more than six decades. Therefore, we have committed to making improvements to this building with more than four centuries of history.”
The opening concert of this 64th edition will take place in the Cloister of the Sant Domingo Convent on August 9 at 10:00 p.m., with a performance by Janine Jansen and the Camerata Salzburg. The closing concert will be held on August 29th, also at 10:00 PM, by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, with Paul Lewis as piano soloist and Víctor Pablo Pérez conducting.
Advance ticket sales can be made online through the Festival’s website and at the Festival office, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Tickets can also be purchased at the door on the day of the concert from 8:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
Ticket sales and season ticket renewals will be announced later; these can only be made at the Festival Office.
