From Turquoise Bays to Shifting Dunes: Walking from Cala Agulla to Cala Mesquida

To start the walk, cross Cala Agulla beach toward the wooded area at the far end, near Cala Moltó. From here, a clearly visible path leads into the pine forest and marks the beginning of the route.

The trail is approximately 3–4 km one way and follows a rocky but well-defined path through the shaded woodland of Coll de Marina. Along the way, you’ll pass through a protected natural area rich in native flora and fauna. The route gradually opens out toward the dune system behind Cala Mesquida.

At this point, you’ll reach the wooden boardwalk that crosses the dunes of Arenal de sa Mesquida. This raised walkway helps preserve the fragile ecosystem while offering a pleasant and easy walk towards the beach. The boardwalk access was restricted for maintenance, but it is now open and ready for use.

Cala Mesquida is a long, wide beach of fine, pale sand, backed by dunes and framed by rocky headlands. On clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of Menorca on the horizon. The rocks along the edges of the beach provide ideal spots to sit, rest, or enjoy a picnic.

Overall, this is an easy and family-friendly walk of around 4 km (one way), perfect for enjoying coastal scenery, spotting wildlife, and cooling off with a swim during the warmer months.

You can return to Cala Agulla along the same route orFor those seeking a more challenging option, you can begin the climb to Talaia de Son Jaumell. To do this, after crossing the wooden boardwalk from Cala Mesquida, take the path branching to the left. Once you reach Talaia de Son Jaumell and take in the spectacular views over Cala Ratjada, continue along the path until it reconnects with the Coll de Marina trail. In
about 500 m it will lead you back to Cala Moltó and then to Cala Agulla, where you started.

This section involves an ascent and descent of approximately 300 m, with some steep slopes. The difficulty is moderate, and proper hiking shoes are strongly recommended.
