Alcúdia Demands Immediate Acceleration of Pere Mas i Reus Avenue Works
The Town Hall of Alcúdia has called on the construction company responsible for the redevelopment of Pere Mas i Reus Avenue to urgently accelerate the works following significant delays affecting local businesses, workers, residents, and the tourism sector.
Municipal officials acknowledged the growing frustration among shop owners, restaurants, hotels, and nearby residents, especially with the start of the tourist season already underway.
According to the council, the project originally began with confidence that agreed deadlines would be respected. However, after detecting that progress was falling behind schedule, the Town Hall intensified both technical and political oversight of the works.
In recent weeks, several meetings have been held with the contractor and project managers to demand additional workers, more resources, and a reorganisation of the construction plan in order to minimise disruption and speed up completion.
Mayor Josefina Linares stated that the council fully understands the concerns of businesses and residents, stressing the importance of the summer season for the local economy. She added that the municipality is acting with “maximum firmness” to ensure commitments are fulfilled.
The council described the redevelopment as a strategic project aimed at modernising one of Alcúdia’s main tourist areas, including upgrades to public services, accessibility, mobility, and public spaces.
At the same time, the municipality warned that the importance of the project cannot justify the current delays. The mayor confirmed that the Town Hall is prepared to study all available administrative and legal options if contractual obligations are not met.
Meanwhile, efforts continue to reduce disruption through improved pedestrian access routes, reinforced signage, adapted access to businesses, and additional cleaning and maintenance work in the area.
