More than 100 restaurants, bars and beach kiosks in Alcúdia have signed up to this year’s Green Flags Movement, a nationwide initiative led by Ecovidrio that promotes glass recycling and the circular economy.
The campaign was officially launched in Alcúdia by Mayor Fina Linares, alongside representatives from the local council, EMSA and Ecovidrio.
A total of 103 hospitality businesses are taking part this summer as the municipality aims to retain its Green Flag for Sustainability. Alcúdia will compete against 27 other municipalities across the Balearic Islands, with awards recognising communities that demonstrate the strongest commitment to glass recycling, environmental awareness and participation from the hospitality sector.
Throughout the summer, participating businesses will receive environmental guidance and training from Ecovidrio to help improve the separation and recycling of glass packaging.
The Green Flags Movement now involves more than 120 municipalities and 12,000 restaurants, bars and beach kiosks across Spain. In the Balearic Islands, only two municipalities will receive the Green Flag award, making the competition an important recognition of local sustainability efforts.
Alcudia is really proving to be a leading example for the Balearics and setting a path for others when it comes to sustainable practices and the ever more on topic sustainable tourism.
