Record 125 Swimmers Take on Alcúdia’s 7km Open Water Challenge

Alcúdia’s XXII Travessa d’Aigües Obertes has celebrated its biggest edition yet, with a record 125 swimmers taking on the 7-kilometre open water course from Formentor Beach to Sant Pere Beach in Mal Pas.

The annual event, organised by the Alcúdia Town Council’s Sports Department, was held in exceptionally calm sea conditions, allowing swimmers to complete the challenging route with ideal conditions throughout much of the course.

Safety and support were a major part of the event, with around 75 volunteers and professionals involved in the organisation. The operation included the Guardia Civil’s GEAS diving unit, Salvamento Marítimo’s Salvamar Cavall Bernat and municipal lifeguards.

On the water, around 40 kayaks and paddleboards, alongside jet skis and volunteer boats, accompanied the swimmers throughout the seven-kilometre crossing.

Alcúdia mayor Fina Linares and Sports Councillor Verónica Caro attended the event and took part in the trophy presentation at the finish.

The record turnout marks another successful edition of one of Alcúdia’s established open-water swimming events, with the organisers thanking the volunteers, emergency services, lifeguards and everyone involved in making the crossing possible.
