A large pothole on Oronella Street in Gotmar, in Puerto de Pollença, has left households in the upper part of the neighbourhood without vehicle access. The residents association reported cracks in the pavement as early as March 1 and the owner of the adjacent plot, which is being prepared for building work, was urged to build a retaining wall to prevent further damage. As a preventative measure, one lane was closed to traffic, but the situation got worse.
Last week’s heavy rains finished the job off and a significant portion of the roadway collapsed, making it impossible for vehicles to pass. The council had to completely close the affected section and, from the Urban Planning Area, a decree was signed that ordered the owner to carry out the containment and repair works within a week. One resident confirmed with TOTN today that they are working but it’s not finished.
Now affected residents have to use a service staircase, which the council had to quickly clean up and fix, so residents could reach their homes. The stairs were in a terrible condition and are especially difficult for people with reduced mobility, families with children, and the elderly.
The president of the Gotmar Neighbourhood and Friends Association, which had only recently reformed, warned that “we need an immediate solution. We cannot be cut off for days without knowing when we will be able to drive again.”
