What’s Happening with the Beach in Pollensa?

Last Friday, the Council of Pollensa has put out to tender (for a second time) the contract to service the beach in Pollensa, namely Albercruix, Tamarells and Cala Sant Vicenç, after no one applied on the first occasion.

As confirmed yesterday by the mayor, Martí March, “the conditions have changed and the prices have gone down.” Although March could not give an exact figure, he assured that the decrease is “significant.” Another change in this second call is that the three beaches have been taken out in three separate lots. The Associació de Veïnats del Port de Pollença (AVPP) has always presented itself to manage these three beaches, but they did not apply in the first tender, claiming that it was not economically viable.

Now, interested parties have a period of eight calendar days, specifically from the 15th to the 22nd included, to present their offers. The processing of this file has been made “urgent” in order to get the beaches managed as soon as possible.

Just a little background: The delay in the tender has been a thorn in the council’s side this season. While the opposition at the council — the Tots per Pollença-El Pi group — say that “The government team is putting the current tourist season in danger,” the mayor, Martí March, explained that at the time the Council still didn’t have authorization from Costes to tender this service, as the Costes Authority had made a series of extra requirements. This meant that the initial tender was issued conditionally informing applicants that the contract depended on authorization of the Costes authority.
