Christmas Mode Engaged

It’s that lovely time of year when the Christmas lights go on. As the event in Palma gets bigger every year, the towns around the island have caught on too. A programme of switching-on events has appeared with Bunyola going in first – one day before Palma – on Friday 22nd.

Here in the north, Pollensa is switching on the lights in the port on Tuesday 3rd December and Wednesday 4th December in the town. There will also be a Christmas Market in Puerto Pollensa on 14th December.

In Muro there will be a Christmas market on December 7th and 8th with a switching on ceremony on the 7th at 7pm.

A little bit further afield (well, it is Christmas) Inca will switch on their lights on 5th December and their Christmas Wonderland market will run from 12th-15th December.

Pollensa Voucher System

To stimulate local retail and to get residents to shop local, a grant of €30,000 has been awarded in a voucher scheme. It means that for any €30 you spend, you could get a €15 voucher back.

Sounds too good to be true right? But it is correct, all residents over the age of 16 have the possibility of obtaining not one but two €15 vouchers, you just need to spend €30 to get one of them.

Each participating shop, all 26, gets 76 vouchers and they will be given out as long as there is availability. The campaign started on 20th November and some shops have already used up all their vouchers so get there quick. You can see if there are any left on this page.

Over in Alcudia, a Christmas market with music, food and more will be among the activities to help the commercial campaign to attract people to shop in Alcudia. The event will be on 7th December in Alcudia and 14th December in Puerto Alcudia. TOTN will post more details as they become available.

In Campanet, the Christmas Market will be held in the Plaza Major on 8th December from 10am-6pm.
