Fire Starting

You may have already noticed from the veil of smoke in the air, it’s that time of year when fires are allowed. If you have a large garden or a piece of land you may have gathered garden rubbish throughout the year and have stacks ready to burn. Now’s your chance!

The local government sets out the dates; the main information is that fires are allowed from 15th October until the end of April. Although this year, the ban was pushed forward to 15th April because it was so hot. It’s important to look out for possible alerts for fire danger or drought, which can be consulted on this Government page.

The following table summarises the periods of authorisation/prohibition of burning by time of year, fire alert level and type of land (forest, more than 500 metres from forest land or less than 500 metres from forest land).

Fire in Recreational Areas

The use of fire in recreational areas – the public barbecue areas like in Es Pixarells – is also authorised again from October 16 to April 30, provided that there are torrados (barbecues) available. Of course, this authorisation is also subject to environmental factors.
