New Participatory Project for Residents and Tourist Industry

The Consell de Mallorca has launched an innovative project that will promote dialogue and facilitate an understanding between residents and tourism. The objective is to promote measures that improve coexistence between residents and the tourist industry and generate a common and participatory project.

The Department of Tourism’s pioneering project will help understand in depth the perception and feelings of people linked to the island regarding the current situation. This initiative seeks to identify the issues that most concern residents, as well as define how Mallorca should evolve to guarantee a harmonious coexistence between them and a prosperous tourist industry.

As part of this project, the Minister of Tourism, Marcial Rodríguez, and the Director of Tourism for Demand and Hospitality, Susanna Sciacovelli, hosted a call for participants, which was attended by 60 people, from almost 100 who have already collaborated in the initiative. In the meeting, participants were presented with the first results obtained and the “collective feeling”. This information is being analyzed and, together with the repositioning effort of the Mallorca brand, will be officially presented in the coming months.

Mallorca Rebranding

The project, coordinated with the agency Totem Branding, encompasses an analysis of Mallorca not only as a tourist destination, but also as a brand that projects values both in international markets and among its own residents.

In each of these meetings it was possible to talk about responsible tourism and coexistence, as well as the importance of maintaining the essence of the island to continue being a unique destination. This approach, based on active listening and deep understanding, will allow the development of a new tourism management strategy rooted in the authenticity of the island.

The result is an established  roadmap with the Pledge: coexistence and responsibility to consolidate the “Isla del Mañana”.

Interviews have been conducted with representatives of various sectors of Mallorcan society, covering areas such as social, economic, political, artistic, academic and artisanal. This material is being processed and will provide an authentic vision of what the inhabitants and people vitally and professionally linked to the island feel and expect, so that Mallorca is consolidated as an excellent place to live and a desirable destination at a global level.

In its statement, the Consell de Mallorca says that this project reinforces their commitment to consolidate itself as a responsible destination and always move towards a sustainable future, balanced and in line with the expectations of both residents and visitors, ensuring a prosperous and lasting coexistence on the island.
