An agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment and the PortBlue Club Pollentia Resort & Spa hotel has resulted in a €6,656 investment in the fight against invasive species in the Albufereta Nature Reserve,
More specifically, this money will not only be used to fight against invasive species but also to reorganise the use in the surroundings of the hotel establishment, such as closing an illegal parking area and planting aromatic plants.
During the signing ceremony for the renewal of this Agreement, which aims to contribute to the maintenance, conservation and restoration of the habitats and species of the protected wetland area, Councillor Joan Simonet wanted to highlight that “it has been demonstrated once again that public-private collaboration can be very advantageous for the protection of our natural spaces.”
The plans are for next year, when the money will be allocated to these projects as well as the creation of an oasis for pollinators, a hotel for insects and appropriate signage.
The s’Albufereta Nature Reserve has a protected area of 211 hectares in the municipalities of Alcudia and Pollença. This natural space, considered a Site of Community Importance (SCI) and Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) of the Natura 2000 Network, is a vitally important enclave for aquatic birds in their migrations and a potential breeding site for endangered species.
