Fire on the Albufera

Last week’s fire broke out on Wednesday and was not fully extinguished until around 6.30 pm the following Friday after burning some 109 hectares of reeds. The forest fire, the third in the area in two weeks, broke out at 11.30 am on Wednesday.

Initially, the fire, which started on the Son Fornari road, was declared a 0-severity but shortly afterwards it was upgraded to potential 1-severity due to the possible risk to the population. As a result of the fire, the Consell de Mallorca closed the road from Sa Pobla to Es Mureterar and the residents of three houses had to be evacuated as a precaution. The 109 hectares, adding to the 138.7 hectares that have burned so far this year in the Balearic Islands.
