Regularly edging the Best of the Best Beaches lists, in Spain and in Europe, Playa de Muro— or Platja de Muro in the local language of Catalan—beckons travellers with its idyllic beauty. It’s no wonder this beach is a must-visit with its crystal-clear waters and powder-soft sand. Shallow waters also make this ideal for children or shoreline strolls. With nearly 6km of beach, there is space for all. Sunset here is a magical experience—don’t forget your camera!

The Positives

When it comes to relaxing and sucking up some beach joy, Playa de Muro has it all. It is just so beautiful, it’s impossible not to feel better.

Playa de Muro is also long, and this vast expanse provides ample room for beachgoers. Around the beach restaurants it gets busier, but if you continue walking near the wooded area you will find the crowds thin a little.

The water is very family-friendly. Parents can relax while their little ones splash in the shallow waters.

Further out, the wide sweep of the bay ensures consistent winds making it ideal for water sports and it’s possible to try parasailing, windsurfing, sailing, kite surf, stand up paddle boarding surfing and the new water sport du jour – wing surfing.

Be aware of…

Playa de Muro is famous for its beauty, which brings in the crowd. While there is space for everyone, don’t expect solitude. In the high season the beach is very busy.

Likewise, with its popularity comes the issue of parking. The road that runs parallel to the beach gets very full with cars, which means you may need to drive further away. However, the streets tucked behind the hotels often have some space. What’s more, if you avoid the heat of the day and head to the beach later, you can also take spots as families leave to prepare for dinner, which is way earlier than the locals.

Alternatively, catch the bus. The 302, Palma-Can Picafort, bus stops along Playa de Muro and buses leave every 20 minutes. For more information check our post on Navigating the North of Mallorca by bus

Family day at Playa de Muro

Explore the four distinct sections of Playa de Muro

Sector I
This is the closest beach to Puerto Alcudia, so you can expect excellent amenities with restaurants and hotels lining the beach.

Sector II
Also known as Es Braç, this beach begins at the canal from the Albufera wetlands. There are still hotels along here, but fewer, so it is less busy.

Sector III
Slightly further along is the beach known as Es Comu. Here nature returns as the hotels disappear from the landscape, leaving a tiny pocket of unspoilt beach lined with forest and sand dunes. You can’t park alongside this beach, parking is at each end, which helps keep the numbers down.

Sector IIII
Es Capellans is perhaps the trendiest part of Playa de Muro with restaurants in the sand and DJs and cocktails into the night. The facilities pick up again here as it meets Can Picafort.

Amenities

Sunbeds and Umbrellas.  There are around 240 sunbeds, with 120 parasols, on Playa de Muro and they are roughly €20 per day for a set. Just choose one and the guy will pass by for you to pay and he’ll give you the ticket. They also come with personal lockers so you can secure your valuables while you swim.

There are also free showers so you can rinse off the salt and sand after a day of beach bliss.

You’ll be pleased to hear that the authorities on Playa de Muro take safety seriously. Lifeguards patrol the beach, and a comprehensive rescue system ensures peace of mind for all visitors.

Whether you’re a sun seeker, an adventurer, or a sunset enthusiast, Playa de Muro Beach promises an unforgettable experience. Pack your swimsuit, sunscreen, and a sense of wonder—it’s time to explore this slice of paradise!
