Alcúdia has become the first municipality in Mallorca to introduce a new visual accessibility guide designed to improve communication with people who have hearing difficulties.
The new initiative has been developed by the Universal Accessibility Promotion Office of the Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) and will be introduced at public service points across Alcúdia Town Hall.
The visual guides provide simple and practical recommendations to help staff communicate more effectively with people who have hearing difficulties, both before and during their interaction with municipal services.
Alcúdia Mayor Fina Linares welcomed the introduction of the initiative, highlighting that accessibility is not only about removing physical barriers, but also ensuring that everyone can communicate and receive services on equal terms.
The initiative was presented in Alcúdia alongside IMAS President and Councillor for Social Welfare Guillermo Sánchez, Insular Director for People with Disabilities Maria Francesca Rigo Amengual and members of the municipal government.
Sánchez described the guide as a simple and practical tool that will help councils improve services for people with hearing difficulties and continue removing barriers to communication.
The posters will now be installed at public service points within Alcúdia Town Hall, with the aim of making interactions between residents and the local administration more accessible.
As the first municipality in Mallorca to adopt the new guide, Alcúdia will be the starting point for an initiative designed to improve accessible communication within local public services.
